Automobile Industry Effluent Treatment Plant (ETP)
Why specialised ETP for Automobile Industry?
Automobile manufacturing units generate complex effluent streams — oily wastewater from washing & degreasing, paint shop rinse water containing suspended solids and colorants, solvent residues, and metal finishing effluent with heavy metals. A purpose-built ETP combines physico-chemical pretreatment, biological polishing and advanced polishing (UF/RO or carbon) to meet discharge or reuse requirements.
Overview — Typical Automobile ETP (5–300 KLD)
We supply packaged and site-erected ETP systems for automobile units, paint shops, component washers, electroplating and metal finishing. Standard solutions include:
- Oil & grease separation (API / oil trap / dissolved air flotation)
- pH neutralization & coagulation / flocculation for paint solids removal
- Biological treatment (MBBR / SBR / ASP) for soluble organics
- Advanced polishing (UF/RO/activated carbon) for reuse or to meet stringent discharge limits
Capacity flexibility: 5 KLD — 300 KLD. We custom-engineer units for intermittent flows & variable loading typical of automobile processes.
Suggested Process Flow
Recommended baseline: MBBR for compact footprint and robust operation in paint-shop and variable-load conditions. For high TDS or reuse, add UF→RO polishing or MEE for ZLD.
Typical Technical Specifications (20 KLD example)
| Parameter | Value / Note |
|---|---|
| Design flow | 20 KLD (scalable 5–300 KLD) |
| Influent characteristics (typical) | pH 4–10, BOD 200–2000 mg/L (varies), COD 500–4000 mg/L, TSS 50–2000 mg/L, Oil & Grease 20–500 mg/L |
| Primary treatment | Screen + Grit + API or DAF (for oil & paint solids) |
| Biological system | MBBR / SBR / ASP (MBBR recommended) |
| Treated quality (typical) | BOD < 30 mg/L*, SS < 30 mg/L*, Oil & Grease < 5 mg/L (after polishing) |
| Polishing | Sand / Activated Carbon / UF / RO (if reuse required) |
| Sludge handling | Thickener + Filter Press / Decanter (optional) |
| Automation | PLC with pH, flow, level & DO monitoring (optional) |
*Final guarantees depend on influent variability & polishing units. Pilot testing recommended for paint-shop effluents and solvent-bearing streams.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
A: Solvent-bearing streams are best treated with source segregation and either physical adsorption (activated carbon) or advanced oxidation (AOP). We recommend a pilot to define best approach.
Q: What about electroplating effluent with heavy metals?A: We provide chemical precipitation, filtration and polishing to meet heavy metal limits. Metals recovery options also available.
Q: Do you provide RO / ZLD solutions?A: Yes — UF/RO polishing and MEE-based ZLD packages are available for reuse and zero discharge requirements.
